Thoughts:

This is the first RE-Read I am planning for my Sundays With Stevie Challenge.  I haven’t read this book since the mid eighties.  The first time I picked it up, I think I was in either 5th or 6th grade, and I remember the librarian taking it away from me telling me I should “choose something more appropriate”.  Of course I snuck it home and read it in one night.  I remember thinking how fantastic it would be to have power like Carrie, and really feeling like I knew her (because I went through quite a bit of bullying and teasing myself, growing up).

I read somewhere that King had written this novel, and then tossed it in the trash thinking no one would be interested in it.  His wife found it and dug it out of the garbage and told him to try to get it published.  Amazing to think that one of the most iconic horror novels (and films) almost never got made.

If you haven’t read this one, I really hope you will give it a go.  It’s a great read, and not too long or too scary.  Simply put: it’s fantastic.  I’ll post a full review once I have re-read it.  It will be interesting to see if I like it as much now as I did the first time I read it.

My Collection:
Currently my Carrie is Hardback, first edition.  There is a little shelf wear on the jacket, but nothing I can’t live with.  I am happy with my copy and have no plans on trying to replace this one.  Of course, if I ran across a flawless and SIGNED first edition – well… I wouldn’t NOT take it.  Just sayin’.
