Synopsis (from Amazon):
Ethan Wate used to think of Gatlin, the small Southern town he had always called home, as a place where nothing ever changed. Then he met mysterious newcomer Lena Duchannes, who revealed a secret world that had been hidden in plain sight all along. A Gatlin that harbored ancient secrets beneath its moss-covered oaks and cracked sidewalks. A Gatlin where a curse has marked Lena’s family of powerful Supernaturals for generations. A Gatlin where impossible, magical, life-altering events happen.Sometimes life-ending.Together they can face anything Gatlin throws at them, but after suffering a tragic loss, Lena starts to pull away, keeping secrets that test their relationship. And now that Ethan’s eyes have been opened to the darker side of Gatlin, there’s no going back. Haunted by strange visions only he can see, Ethan is pulled deeper into his town’s tangled history and finds himself caught up in the dangerous network of underground passageways endlessly crisscrossing the South, where nothing is as it seems.

My Thoughts:

If you haven’t read Beautiful Creatures (Beautiful Creatures, Book 1) then I am going to say please do not read this review.  I’m afraid there is no way to talk about book 2 without referencing book 1.  They are both WONDERFUL so just, go pick them up.  They are totally READABLE.  =D

I talk about Beautiful Darkness at about the 1:54 mark.

<—SPOILERS BELOW—>

I took a couple of weeks to get going in this book.  I was so let down by the start of it.  I don’t know if it was just that I knew there would be no Macon or what, but it just dragged for me at the beginning.  I kept going though, and after about 120 pages in, I got sucked in again and it only took like 2 days to finish.  So for everyone that picks this up and thinks about putting it down, don’t give up.  Seriously, give it about 140 pages or so.  It will pick up, I promise!

All the main characters are back from book one.  Well, almost all.  The ones that died of course aren’t back.  Or ARE THEY!?! hehe…

In book two we get a few new characters:  I really liked Liv, the new library assistant.  I did not like John, he was a douchebag.

So this book is pretty much Ethan, Link, and Liv trying to rescue Lena from Ridley and John.  I loved the adventures in the tunnels and getting to see the caster world.  The descriptions were great and you could almost feel like you had been there.  That is good story telling.

This next bit is totally SPOILERISH so skip it if you need to.  Im going to write it in WHITE TEXT, so HIGHLIGHT IT if you want to read it.

When I realized that MACON was alive, I lost it.  I mean (and OMGosh! I am totally tearing up just writing about it now!), I started crying so hard.  He was by far my favorite character in book one and when they killed him off it killed me.  So when they brought him back… ugh!  I cried from that point on!  I couldn’t put the book down, didn’t want to be without him, afraid they would kill him off again before I picked it back up.   When I finally finished reading the book, I even tweeted Kami Garcia and told her “THANK YOU, for Macon.”  I’m sure she thought I was a loon, she didn’t reply, but I felt like they brought him back… just for ME.

So for me, the last half of the book totally made up for the slow start.  When a book is so good, it makes you send a txt to the author to THANK them… yeah, that’s a good book.

I can NOT wait to get my hands on Beautiful Chaos (Beautiful Creatures, Book 3)
