Synopsis (from Amazon):
When Gabi and Lia finally learn to surf the river of time, they realize they must make hard choices about life and love in the third and final book in the River of Time series. Gabi and Lia Betarrini have learned to control their time travel, and they return from medieval Italy to save their father from his tragic death in modern times. But love calls across the centuries, and the girls are determined to return forever—even though they know the Black Plague is advancing across Europe, claiming the lives of one-third of the population. In the suspenseful conclusion of the River of Time series, every decision is about life … and death.
Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end.
But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning. – Winston Churchill
Can I just start out this review by saying “SQUEE!!! SQUEE!!!!” haha! This entire series has been one of the best “rides” ever, and it’s by far on my favorite reads list.
I received an ARC (advanced readers copy) of Torrent: A Novel (River of Time Series) by Lisa T. Bergren for review. I’ll just say I’m so grateful to Lisa and her people. They not only sent me the books for me to read – but several books for giveaways here on BunnyCates.com. Last month we gave away both Waterfall and Cascade to a lucky person, and this month we’ll be giving away a copy of Torrent and some signed bookmarks!
According to my reading updates, it took me 3 days to read this one. Of course Day Two was spent chasing kids at Holiday World so I don’t think that counts. =D
Torrent: A Novel (River of Time Series) picks up where Cascade left off. (and if you haven’t read the first two books in the series – you probably shouldn’t read this review. I am sure it will be spoilerish on the first two books!)
In this one the ladies Betarrini jump back to “semi” present day, grab Papa B, and head on back to Marcello and Luca for an exciting climax to an amazing series!
Character wise: All the main characters are back in this one. Gabi is strong as ever and I love seeing a strong, young, resourceful female lead. They don’t all have to be weepy frilly girls waiting to be rescued! Lia is just a strong in this one, and it looks like she may be getting her own spinoff series *hint, Lisa. HINT* Marcello is still swoonable (yea, I totally just made that word up. Go me!) but Luca is STILL the man for me – fine, funny, and fearless. Lord Grecco, “ohhh Grecco. You and your naughty hotness”. I would love to see him as the bad guy you’re ashamed to love in a spinoff series. *sigh*
Plot wise: OOOOooooOOOOO myyyy goshhhhh! Lets see if I can sum up Torrent without being too spoilerish. What a ride! I cried, twice. I stopped breathing for more paragraphs then I can remember. I cussed at a few lines. I closed the book mid-sentence and hugged it a few times too. Now THAT is good story telling!
In my opinion, Lisa T Bergren did an amazing job of creating believable/lovable characters – sucked into a whirlwind of unbelievable circumstances – in a world that is as stunningly gorgeous as it is exciting. It’s a story and world that readers just aren’t ready to let go. Even after the “final” book in the series.
If you are a fan of this series like me, why not TELL Lisa about it! I’ve been pestering her to write a few more books in this series (a bunch of us have!), and I hope you’ll help me tell her I’m not the only one who wants it! Please help me out by tweeting her this message: http://clicktotweet.com/EceVO If the click to tweet link doesn’t work for you – please tweet her with: “ I agree with @BunnyCates – @LisaTBergren definitely needs to write a few more #books for the #RiverOfTime series! #reading #yalit #wishlist ”
