Guys! I wanted to share something totally crazy with y’all today!
I was sitting around trying to think of something ‘different’ to post up, and it dawned on me that I hadn’t done a Wishlist Update post in.. well… FOREVER!
I’m going to show you my current “Omg! I.MUST.HAVE” book!
The book is called Midian Unmade; it is a short story compilation of stories about the former citizens of Midian. If you don’t know what Midian is, I’m guessing you’re a lot younger than I am. You see, back when I was in high school, geeze… why is this post making me feel like I’m ancient all the sudden?
Now, Clive Barker has written some pretty kickass shit, so it is no wonder the movie became a cult classic. *sorry for the language, but its true.
Barker has written things like: Hellraiser, The Books of Blood, Weaveworld, and Imajica! Oy! Imajica is the book that I checked out so many times, the library just let me have it for $2! #nokidding *Sorry to anyone who was on the waitlist for it at the library back in 1991-92!
The thing is, Barker himself hated the way the NIGHTBREED movie got cut and the final version that got released. HATED IT. #truestory
So back in 2013, Joseph Nasisse (he’s the guy that wrote EYES TO SEE & KING OF THE DEAD) put out a call for submissions for shorts to be published by TOR, over on the googles!
Tor Books will be publishing MIDIAN UNMADE: TALES OF CLIVE BARKER’S NIGHTBREED in simultaneous hardcover and trade paperback editions in the fall of 2014 and we’re looking for original horror and dark fantasy stories that fit the guidelines…
It is at this point I began to squeal, I believe…
Cut to July, 2015 and…BOOM!
Midian Unmade: Tales of Clive Barker’s Nightbreed by Assorted. Edited by Joseph Nassise, Introduction by Clive Barker
Release Date: July 28, 2015
Clive Barker‘s Nightbreed has been controversial since the moment it was released in a version edited by the studio and roundly condemned by Barker, who wrote and directed the film. A virtually instant cult film, Nightbreed–based on Barker‘s novella, Cabal–was nominated for three Saturn Awards and won several prizes at European film festival.
The impact of Nightbreed goes beyond the screen; along with Cabal and Barker’s seminal The Books of Blood, it has inspired many horror writers, some of whom have gathered in this tribute anthology.
Midian Unmade tells the stories of the Nightbreed after the fall of their city, Midian. Driven from their homes, their friends and family members slain before their eyes, the monsters become a mostly-hidden diaspora. Some are hunted; others, hunters. Some seek refuge. Others want revenge.
Contributors to Midian Unmade include: Karl Alexander, author of the classic novel Time After Time; actor, writer, and director Amber Benson (Tara Maclay on Buffy the Vampire Slayer); New York Times bestselling author Nancy Holder; Hugo and John W. Campbell Award-winner Seanan McGuire; Bram Stoker Award winner Weston Ochre, David J. Schow, winner of the World Fantasy Award, writer of the screenplay for The Crow; New York Times bestselling writer Stephen Woodworth; and many more–23 stories in all.
With an introduction by Clive Barker, this is an outstanding collection of original horror short stories in a dazzling variety of styles.
You guys! Just the fact that Barker, himself, wrote the intro for this book is a BIG DEAL!!!! I don’t think he would back it or even allow it, had it not been something amazing! Right?!
OMG!!!!!!! I can’t stand even typing about it! Im so excited!!
PREORDERED – YES PLEASE!
So that’s it from me today! This is my “Waiting on Wednesday”/”Wishlist Wednesday”/”Wishlist Update”!
How about you, what book are you drooling over right now?
