Trash to Treasure – Spice Rack
I did a fun project today. I had an old spice rack that either my friend gave me or I picked up at a yard sale. Its been sitting bare over in my cubbies for about a year waiting for SOMETHING. I mean the bottles were so coated in dust, baby wipes weren’t enough. I had to wip out the Windex! haha!
My goal, turn this spice rack into something cute – while using it to help organize some of these lovely seed beads I bought from my friend Mindi. She always has awesome stuff for sale in her Etsy shop!
So I knew I had this rack, and all these beads. But half way to filling up the jars, I decided I wanted to spiff up the rack because that plain ole metal would just never do!
So I headed over to my supplies and just started pulling out stuff I thought would be usable in this makeover…
I decided to use the rose I made HERE. I also knew I wanted it to be removable, that way if I ever wanted to put it on the bottom rung instead of the top I could move it. So I cute out a circle with a punch and fed some binding wire through it. Then I could use the wire to attach it all to the rack.
So I built my flower onto the circle with hot glue. Next I decided I wanted a backer on the rack, so I found some paper in my stash that I loved. Cut out some cardboard to fit my back, and then adhered the paper to the cardboard.
And then to add a little “aging”, I used a sanding block to scruff up the edges, and then inked the edges with Distress Walnut Stain Ink.
Using hot glue, and making one heck of a stringy gluey mess, I added some brown trim around the base and then adhered the backer to my rack.
I also wanted to do something to the top, so I ended up tying a ribbon and using hot glue to stick a lovely cross on there. Then I used my I-Rock tool, and added ONE single bling. 🙂
I must say, I am very happy with the results!

PS: Our Sweetz isnt doing to well. Old age is taking her from us, they have given us only a few more days with her. She could use some friendly prayers for a peaceful passing. I know she’s just a dog (to some), but she’s been our baby for almost 14 years.
