Synopsis (from Amazon):
You know a publicity stunt has backfired when someone dies.Starving author Eddie Barrow, Jr., will do anything to get a book deal with a NYC publisher. Even if it means getting caught by the media while engaging in S&M with a female celebrity as a publicity stunt. What Eddie gets instead are details of a billion dollar fraud scheme from a suicidal client who’s fatally shot minutes later. Now on the run from the law and the killers, Eddie seeks help from two unlikely friends-an alcoholic and a dominatrix. With few resources, Eddie races to clear his name, unveil the fraud scheme, and expose the killers before he becomes their next victim.
My Thoughts:
This book was very fast paced, as in, I read it in a day! YAY!
In this book we follow a “wannabe” writer and his friends as they hatch a “scheme” to try to get famous – to get published. Unfortunately, the scheme doesn’t go as planned. Do they ever? There is a murder, of course!
I enjoyed the main character, Eddie, and his friends. The story is a good one. Felt like I was reading Scooby Doo – but for grownups. *uhm… REAL grownups – there is a dom and everything! haha!* I did feel like the conversation dialogs between the friends were a little “forced”, but it wasn’t so much so that it turned me off to the story. The author also took the time to translate the French dialog to English, which I wish he hadn’t. I found it slowed the pace of the story for me, but then again – I know French. I am sure those who do not will appreciate the translations.
I think my favorite thing of the entire book, really, was the use of Darwin. I thought it was just awesome. That’s the bit that made me feel all Scooby Doo-y. Just some friends… hangin’ out in a cemetery… trying to solve a murder mystery… with Charles Darwin as our clue. =D
This story would make and excellent episode of CASTLE!
In conclusion:
All in all, I say GOOD READ! Pick it up if you like murder mystery, thriller type books.
Mom Notes:
Language warning: cussing including gd *cringe* and the f-bomb. Important to note: this book is adult thriller genre not YA.
