December 2010 Book Club
Last months book club was a huge success! I loved the book, and especially love that a few folks joined me in reading and we had some great discussions on Skype and FaceBook! Reading, it seems is becoming a forgotten past-time. You would think it would be in full bloom with all the reading folks do now a days, via the internet and cell phones. Its not though. I was surprised that so many people tell me they haven’t read a book since they were in school. REALLY?
I hope you try and join in this month! I set out looking for one book, but ended up not being able to find it locally. I ended up choosing a different book than I started out looking for but by the same author. NEIL GAIMAN!
American Gods: A Novel
By: Neil Gaiman
Brief synopsis:
Released from prison, Shadow finds his world turned upside down. His wife has been killed; a mysterious stranger offers him a job. But Mr. Wednesday, who knows more about Shadow than is possible, warns that a storm is coming — a battle for the very soul of America . . . and they are in its direct path.
OK so…
all of the reviews I can find on this book are GREAT. A few say that its amazing but the ending fizzles. I loved the Graveyard Book, I love reading Gaiman’s blog. So I say we give it a go and see where we end up!
AWARD WINNER:
“One of the most talked-about books of the new millennium, American Gods is a kaleidoscopic journey deep into myth and across an American landscape at once eerily familiar and utterly alien. It is, quite simply, a contemporary masterpiece.”
- *Hugo Award for Best SF/Fantasy Novel
- *Bram Stoker Award for Best Horror Novel
- *Locus Award for Best Fantasy Novel
- *Nebula Award for Best Novel
