Louisville Zoo April 2011
Hi friends!
Sorry for the lack of updates lately, much has been ado in the Cates castle! The main thing, I reckon, is we are just coming off of SPRING BREAK! We didn’t go out of town or run off to some beach this year. No, we elected to go grab up my sweet little niece for the week and do some fun things right here local. One of the things we did was take the kids to the Louisville Zoo.
We try to take our kids to at least one zoo a year. It’s a fun FAMILY thing to do. We love animals, so the zoo just seems like a given. Our town doesn’t have a zoo, so we tend to bounce around where we go from year to year. So far we’ve hit our local-ish zoos: Evansville IN, Louisville KY, Dallas TX, Nashville TN, Columbus OH, and Atlanta GA. We really want to hit the Chicago Zoo and Shedd Aquarium since that is right up by my dad’s, but Spring Break and my dad’s work schedule just never seem to work out.
Anyway, this year we took the kids to the Louisville Zoo, since it was fairly close (3 hour drive) and my niece said she didn’t ever remember being there. I posted a lot of the pics of the kids on my facebook throughout the day, but got several “requests” for pics of the animals so here ya go. Sorry this post is VERY photo heavy, if any of the pics didn’t load just reload the page, with the cache intact and they all should fill in for you!
Here is the girls, waiting for me to get up out of bed! (above) and below was about 20 minutes into the car ride, haha!
Bub figured out how to drowned out the tweens with their GAGA singing… *wish I’d had some headphones myself! lol*
I said “I don’t see nothin in there…” Darrin pointed and this thing was right in front of my face! YIKES! I said “ackkk! Back Lake Placid! Back!” lol…
“No photos today” says this little star… (below)

The penguins. Man so cute, but I swear it was all I could do to not barf in there. SOOOO stinky. bah!
We stopped for lunch in the Zoo. My advice: EAT BEFORE YOU GO! Wow! It was $50 for 5 hotdogs, fries, and drinks. YIKES!
“Babe! Babe! Get a pic of these flamingos!”
“Why?”
”What? They’re awesome!”
”Well, you can see them in the neighbors yard anytime you want to!”
”What? Oh shut up. Take it, take it!”

haha, this little squirrel followed us all around the zoo! Every time I turned around, there he was! Ok, it was probably more like him and ALL of his cousins, but regardless, I had to take a pic. Hi lil buddy!!!!
This rhino cracked me up. He wouldn’t move. Wouldn’t do anything. I said “I see you looking at me. Starin at me. With your GOOD EYE!” and he snorted and I ran like mad! ahahah!!!! Darrin was laughing. He told me I better watch it, he was pretty sure that rhino could catch me… haha!!
Afterwards, we headed on back home, and everyone was starving. I was too tired to cook so we decided to stop somewhere. Another Tip: At the Louisville Zoo – when you go, start out to the LEFT and work your way around. I forgot and we started out RIGHT. Guess what – going right is ALL UP HILL!! OMG! And I wore my “shape up” shoes. haha. man my butt and thighs hurt!
We stopped at El Bracero of course!
Anyway, that was our Zoo day. Hope you enjoy the pics!
