About Bunny

Hi there! This is me — the face behind the curtain here at We Are Word Nerds.

My name is Bunny Cates, and I’ve been blogging (and talking about books online) since 2000, in one form or another. Yes, Bunny is my real name. It’s okay if you don’t believe me.

I’m a 50-something Kentucky gal, life-long reader, and mom of two — though “kids” is a stretch these days, since they’re grown and living their own lives in their 20s and 30s. We’re down to three dogs these days, but the house is still never quiet.

I’ve been in love with books and publishing for as long as I can remember, and that love turned into a career path in editing and literary marketing — helped along by degrees in English and Business that I finished along the way. My favorite genres are still Horror and Thriller — that hasn’t changed and probably never will.

What has changed: now that my kids are grown, I no longer review Children’s or Middle Grade titles. If it’s not YA and up, it’s not going to land on this blog anymore.

I’m also branching out a bit — I’m working on the upcoming launch of OfInkAndShadows.com, a new spot for fellow writers. And if you haven’t found it yet, AintWrite.com is still up and running too — go poke around.

I’ve never been a stuffy reviewer. I’m a book lover first, and I write like one. I’m not preachy, and I tend to keep to myself — but when I do speak up, I say what I mean and expect to be heard. You know that filter most people have, the one that stops them from saying exactly what they’re thinking so nobody’s feelings get hurt? Mine’s broken. Sorry. (Not sorry.)

I’m a: book-obsessed, graphic designing, web designing, computer-fixing, mixed-media crafting kind of nerd. Writing, drawing, painting, stamping, scrapbooking, card making — the list goes on and on.

I’m passionate about my family, my life, my friends, my loves — and I say thank you for my blessings every day.
