PROGRESS:  page 120
THOUGHTS SO FAR:  ehhh..

Today is day 2 reading Brisingr, by Christoper Paolini.  I am only to page 120.  I keep finding myself wondering what I liked so much about book 1, Eragon, and why have not cared for the sequels at all.  This is the third book in the series, and just like book two I am just NOT into it.  120 pages in, I should be “hooked” by now.  I’m not.

A quick run through so far:

Brisingr picks up after the Battle of the Burning Plains, with Eragon, Roran and Saphira.  The start is slow to roll, and I found myself yawning and half reading the section with Eragon teaching Roran some magic.

The book does start to build momentum when the three journey to Helgrind and they are attacked by Lethrblaka and Ra’zac. Then the momentum dies off.  They rescue Katrina, of course.  They find Sloan, and I wasn’t  happy with this part at all.  Not so much the writing, but…. well you need to read it.  No spoiler from me.

Nasuada wanting to prove herself entered The Trial of the Long Knives against Fadawar, to maintain leadership of the Varden and the Wandering Tribes. It is a competition where both competitors cut slits on their arms from the elbow down, till one of them decides that they can’t take it. Won’t say who wins, but I’m happy at least.

And now we’re caught up to where I am now.  Page 120, and I am finally feeling a little bit of interest.  Not a lot, mind you, but enough to make me at least pick it up again.

Until tomorrow…

  1. Hi Bunny!
Ooooo….this is such a cool idea!
    LOVE it!!!

I never got to finish reading Eldest… 🙁 I was half way thru it when the children were born and well, never got around to finishing it!

I do want to pick it up again… gosh, have so many books on a waiting list! The problem is: I only get time to read at night when I go to bed and by then I’m so tired I only last a few pages…lol

Right now I’m re-reading The Mummy by Anne Rice, a familiar story is easier to keep track when your brain is already half asleep… hahaha

    HUGS!

  2. I love talking about what people are reading and finding out what I should read next. But does it matter if it’s brainless drivel where the heroine falls for the vampire or time travels to the Battle of Claymorgh? Right now I’m re-reading Preston and Childs’ Special Agent Pendergast series. I just finished Relic and started Reliquary this morning. Anybody out there know who Pendergast is?

    1. @Dee Bibb,
Nah, I gave it like 350 pages and then sat it in my DNF pile to “revisit” later. Book 4 is fixing to come out, so I’ll try to read it again when I get the last book. My son read it though, and said it was just “ok”. So I don’t have high hopes. Still nabbing book 4 though! Just in case. LOL
