Gate fold card – Sketch Challenge

I am hosting several challenges this month at DSO, and one of them is a CARD SKETCH CHALLENGE.

I love sketches, because they really just give you a general direction to go, and then the rest is up to you!

For this month I pulled one of the sketches out of my sketch book.

Which I used to create:

The general idea was a gate fold card, with two panels, binded by a ribbon.  Untie the ribbon to read inside.  Since I have only ever made ONE gate fold before, and I wanted this card to fit a particular size envelope, I had to do a little mathin’ to get my cutting sizes.  LOL

So, I figured out I needed my base to be 10×7, and my panels (digital and printed) needed to be abt 2.5 x 7.

For hybrid crafting, I always create my project 100% digital, and then separate the layers back off (retaining size) and print the layers.  That allows me print ONLY the layers I want, cut them out, and assemble them.  This gives great dimension to the card, and allows me the freedom to change my mind on placement, etc.  and also allows me to play with my paper scrapbooking stash!

So for this card, I printed out my two side panels at 2.5 x 7, and then trimmed them down a little so You could still see the KRAFT CARDSTOCK base.  For my side panels, I used KIMB and JADY DAY STUDIO collab kit: WHAT MATTERS MOST.  I also printed out one of the labels from the digital kit, with one of the wordart on it.  Positioned for printing this used less than 1/2 a sheet of white card stock.  This paper actually printed so light that I had to run it through the printer 3 times to get a good coloring.  This is probably a setting in my printer, new printer and this is my first crafting project with it.  I have never had to do that with my old “INK HOG” printer.  lol…

I did not like the label solid as it was so I reprinted the wordart onto a piece of VELLUM.  Then I cut out the middle of the label with a craft knife and adhered the VELLUM to the back of the label with TOMBOW AQUA so my wordart would be legible.

I then went over the word “me” with a SILVER STARDUST GELLY ROLL PEN, and the word “you” with a BLACK STARDUST GELLY ROLL PEN.  I then aged the label a little by using DISTRESS ANIQUE LINEN around the outer edges.

I wanted to add some dimension to my panels, so I colored the leaves and vines with a GREEN ICECREAM METALLIC GEL PEN, and the 5 petal star flowers with a PINK STARDUST GEL PEN and BLUE STARDUST GEL PEN and then went over that with ILLUMINATE SMOOCH.  The dotted lines a traced in ICECREAM METALLIC GEL PENS and then I added some bling with my I-ROCK TOOL and CRYSTAL ROCKS.

The rest was really just a matter of sticking it all together with the supplies I wanted to use.  I built my flower using 2 flowers from my stash, a button, and a dew drop.  (held together by TOMBOW AQUA), and adhered to the label with GLUE DOTS.  The label was then attached to the card panel.

The ribbon is attached on the backside of the panels using GLUE DOTS.  Then the panels were attached to the base using Stampin’ Up! foam dimensionals.
